How long do rechargeable light bulbs last? Well, that depends on many factors, one of the most important being the brand you buy.
We’re not just boasting when we say Magneto bulbs shine the brightest for the longest time. While we may be biased, having created the Magneto brand, we have evidence to back this claim!
Tests recently carried out by popular news provider, MyBroadband, have revealed that Magneto rechargeable light bulbs come out as a top option in comparison to other products for load shedding. To be more specific, they tested our 7W 2AH bulb, ideal for South Africa’s unique power problems.
Before we look at their test, let’s see what exactly qualifies as a rechargeable light bulb and dive into a few of their benefits:
Lightbulbs that include small batteries for backup power, which are charged when there is electricity supply and are used when there is none.
Lightbulbs with screw-in or bayonet fittings, as seen with regular lightbulbs.
Why Do People Buy Rechargeable Light Bulbs?
Rechargeable light bulbs have become increasingly popular in South Africa since they provide excellent visibility for power outages with the avoidance of fire hazards. They’re also an affordable option to those who can’t afford power backup systems. In addition to these benefits, when compared to paraffin lamps and gas lights, which may provide inconsistent lighting at times (affected by the wind or flow of gas), rechargeable lights never faulter.
In Search of the Best Rechargeable Light Bulbs in South Africa

To separate the wheat from the chaff, MyBroadband tested 7 different light bulb brands. The Magneto 7W LED, with a 2,000mAh battery, was among these bulbs.
Those looking for the best rechargeable light bulbs for their home may be interested in their results:
Tested with different charge times and power demands, the Magneto topped its competitors.
After 2 hours of charge: The Magneto bulb ran the longest with a 2hr-25-minute shine time.
After an overnight charge (minimum of 14 hours) : The Magneto bulb ran the longest with a 6hr-51-minute shine time.
The second test result comes as no surprise to us, since we proudly claim over 6hrs of battery life in our marketing communications. However, we were surprised to learn that its battery life was more than double the capacity of the rest in both tests.
All bulbs were exposed to the same conditions in each test.
The Source of Brightness
MyBroadband set out to test another important element of a rechargeable light bulb, which was its brightness. Using two different power supply sources they compared the brightness (measured in lux) of all the bulbs, of which first ran on electricity and thereafter battery backup. The Magneto 7W literally outshone its competitors in the arena of brightness powered by electricity supply.
With battery and brightness put the test by independent researchers, we’re confident to say that our Magneto rechargeable light bulbs come out tops and are a value-for-money option for South African consumers.
